Research Plan
Methodology Forms of research:
Electronic: Since I am not an expert in the field of cosmetology, I started gathering information through the Internet. While using the Internet I used key words such as 'cosmetology', 'Paul Mitchell', and 'salons' on the search engine Google.com, I then saved any information found on my hard drive. I read over information about Paul Mitchell, the founders, their story, as well as their mission statement, and company leaders. Next I become familiar with Paul Mitchell schools, what it is they offer to their students, and what is taught to current students in order for them to pass state board exams. After this, I read up on various sources defining what a cosmetologist is and does. This research was extremely helpful in grasping the culture of cosmetology and daily routine of an individual who works as a cosmetologist or is studying to become one.
Empirical: For this phase I interviewed my cousin, she is a student at Paul Mitchell the School, located in Salt Lake City. With her as a source I gathered information on her daily routine, school rules and regulations, dress code, tuition, her goals, and school environment. I also had a conversation with my aunt who works at a salon, I learned about communication with clientele, daily routine, and work hazards, through our conversation.
Print: Here I looked over my cousin’s homework, and textbook. I looked over the type of information they study and the work required in a cosmetology school.
