When a student enroll into a Paul Mitchell cosmetology school they will be learning skills such as design, cutting, coloring, multicultural techniques, makeup, fashion trends, manicuring, pedicuring, basic facials, and the art of hairdressing. This will be taught in a three step process called Core, Adaptive, and Creative. Mainly, CORE is where one learns the rules of cosmetology (Paul Mitchell, 2013). It is an introductory course where students will learn the core foundations that will let them confidently begin working on guests, and the Learning Leaders will help to blend professional skills with personal development. Charilyn Puicon, a current Paul Mitchell student says, "My school day is clocking in, after which we have pow-wows (meeting in which all the students get together), then we have theory class where we go over the chapters in the textbook, after this class begins. We start taking appointments after lunch until 3:30. At 4 o'clock school's over." (Puicon).
In order to receive licensing from the state board a student must learn an array of skills; this is why it is so important to enroll in a cosmetology school. In addition, before one can become licensed, most states require 1600 training hours on average to get licensed, but some states require as few as 1000 hours and other require as many as 2300 training hours. Cosmetology school for the most part has a training program that last nine to 15 months, and can cost $10,000 to $20,000. “My training program is 16 months and the cost of my tuition was $17,900.” (Puicon). So as one can see cosmetology school can be expensive, but well worth it.
